Concert in Glasgow to mark the Centenary of the Birth of the Russian Composer Georgy Sviridov

On 13 March 2016 a memorial Concert to mark the Centenary of the Birth of the great Russian Composer Georgy Sviridov took place at the University of Glasgow. Chamber Choir «Russkaya Capella» directed by Mr.Stuart Campbell and Mrs.Svetlana Zvereva and a Collective of women’s voices «Scottish Voices» directed by Mr.Graham Hair performed at the concert.
The programme of the event, which was attended by Consul General of Russia in Edinburgh Andrey A.Pritsepov, included famous «Kursk Songs» by Sviridov and works of some of his predecessors founded on Russian Folksong and Church music.
Celebrating this Anniversary in Scotland is not unintended – Sviridov created talented songs based on poems by the national Scottish Poet Robert Burns.
